Just a quick update to announce that Tania has now returned to massaging after taking an extended break to focusing her attention on our little boy Jaden.

She’s now practicing Lomi Lomi, Hot Stone Massage and a variety of Spa Therapies out of a room she is renting in Chevron Island on the Gold Coast.

She’s really enjoying it and of course, so are her clients!

Here’s a promotional webpage that I have put up for her today and am currently testing.

If you’d like to book in for a massage, just give her a call!

Aloha and enjoy the rest of your day!

Lomi Lomi - How To Get The Most Out Of Your Lomi Lomi Session! lomi lomi If you’ve ever had a lomi lomi massage from a skilled and caring practitioner you’ll know very well the deep levels of relaxation and rejuvenation that can be achieved.

However, as deeply relaxing and healing as lomi lomi massage is, there are a few things that we can do before and after our lomi lomi session to ensure that we get the absolute most out of the experience.

To follow are my 5 suggestions for getting the most out of your lomi lomi session.

1) Make your lomi lomi session the number number 1 priority for your day.

On the day of your lomi lomi booking, make sure that you organize yourself so that the most important thing in your day is your lomi lomi session. This means making sure that you clear your schedule so that you are free at least 1 hour either side of your lomi lomi session.

This will give you enough time to slow down and relax before your treatment, it will ensure you arrive on time without stress, and at the end of your lomi lomi, it will give you time to more slowly integrate back into your world, without having to rush back in and pick up where you left off.

2) Make sure you are clean and comfortable before your lomi lomi.

When we get onto a massage table, it’s only natural that we can become somewhat self-conscious about our bodies, especially in the heat of summer.

So you can just relax without needing to give this a second thought, it’s a great idea to have a shower before your lomi lomi session. This will not only make sure that you are clean, smell nice and feel comfortable on the table, but will also begin the process of warming up your muscles and relaxing your system.

It is also a good idea for men to have a shave a couple of hours before-hand, so that the face massage is enjoyable (i.e. not rough) and for women, you may feel more comfortable if you have performed your hair removal routine a day or two before your lomi lomi session.

3) Make sure you drink water throughout the day, prior to your lomi lomi session.

A lomi lomi massage can be an intensive treatment in terms of detoxifying the body, so it’s a good idea to make sure that you are well hydrated before your treatment.

Now this doesn’t mean that you need to flood your body with water, but rather it means keeping a water bottle with you all day, and taking regular mouthfuls to keep your water levels topped up.

However, you shouldn’t drink anything at least 30 minutes prior to your lomi lomi session, otherwise you may find yourself needing to go to the bathroom in the middle of your lomi lomi.

In regards to food, it’s good idea to avoid eating heavy food, such as meats, pastas and dairy at least an hour befor your lomi lomi session. This will help your system relax and ensure that your body’s energies are free for healing and not spent on the digestion process.

4) Create a special healing intention for your lomi lomi session.

As lomi lomi works on treating the ‘whole’ person, and we each create our own reality with our thoughts, creating an intention for how you would like the lomi lomi to help you is a powerful way to actually ‘make it happen’. In fact, it turns the lomi lomi into a powerful ‘prayer’ for calling what you want into your life, whatever that may be.

“Ask, believe and you will receive!” I have experienced this to be so true in my life.

5) During your lomi lomi session, breathe ‘into’ your tension…and let go!

A skilled and intuitive lomi lomi therapist will naturally be drawn to your areas of tension in your body and although they will never ‘force’ their way into these areas, you may feel your body/muscles wanting to ‘resist’, which can result in a little discomfort.

The way to alleviate this is simply to breathe. When your lomi lomi practitioner finds an area that is particularly tense/painful, you should take a deep breath, and visually your breath going into that area.

Then, as you exhale you will feel the tension/pain dissolve as that area relaxes.

The key is to ‘work with’ your practitioner and let them ‘into’ your body as they peel back the layers of tension, like removing the layers of an onion.

The philosophy of lomi lomi is where there is ‘relaxation’ there can be no illness!

After your lomi lomi, it’s really nice to have a cleansing warm shower to wash away any lingering ‘energy’.

It’s also a good idea to go and sit somewhere peaceful, preferably in nature and allow yourself some time to ‘come back to earth’ and integrate the lomi lomi experience. This is especially so before getting behind the wheel and driving anywhere.

It’s also a ‘must’ to drink plenty of water afterwards as the effects of the lomi lomi in detoxifying/healing your body will continue to work well after the treatment.

So there you go. I hope these suggestions assist you in getting the absolute most out of your lomi lomi sessions, just as they have done for myself and my Lomi Lomi clients.

Mahalo!

Kahuna Massage - So, what happens during a Hawaiian Kahuna Massage and how is it performed?

A Kahuna Massage usually commences with a stillness between the practitioner and client as a connection is made, often with the practitioners hands gently resting on the clients back.

In this stillness the Kahuna Massage practitioner will quietly say a blessing or prayer asking for whatever healing is needed to take place during the kahuna massage. The client also may be asked to set an intention for any healing they would like to receive during the kahuna massage. The practitioner then works intuitively with the client to facilitate whatever healing is needed.

Keeping this in mind, there is no set format or sequence for the Kahuna Massage and no two massages are ever the same.

The is given in fluid, rhythmic strokes using the forearms as well as the hands. Many people have described this as feeling like gentle waves moving over the body. Also, different parts of the body may be massaged at the same time, for example one arm or hand may be working on the lower back and the other hand may be working on the leg. This encourages the recipient to ’switch off’ and allow themselves to completely relax as it is very difficult for the brain to ‘follow’ as two different areas are being massaged at the same time.

As layers of tension are ‘washed away’ the recipient of a Kahuna Massage drifts into deep levels of relaxation and stillness, which may open the door to inner personal realizations and occasionally deep emotional healing.

It is important to realize that the Kahuna Massage practitioner is not the one doing the healing, but rather it is the ‘joint intention’ of both the giver and receiver that unlocks whatever is blocking or suppressing the recipients own life energy.

Wellness is our ‘natural’ state of being and Kahuna Massage is a powerful and effective channel for restoring wellness to both the practitioner and the recipient. Kahuna Massage is beautiful to watch, magic to receive and wonderful to give.

Why not give yourself the ‘gift of aloha’ and experience a Hawaiian Kahuna Massage today!

Aloha Friends!

Tania and I have just updated our Lomi Lomi massage demo video.

It’s now almost 4 minutes long and contains a lot more of the techniques that we teach on our Lomi Lomi courses.

Notice the beautiful, continual flow of Tania’s movements. This constant flowing motion is almost impossible to follow when you are on the table receiving it, and within a short time your mind just ‘lets go’ and you start to drift into deep levels of relaxation.

This ‘flow’ is what separates Lomi Lomi from many other massage therapy modalities that tend to focus on one part of the body at any given time. That and of course the ‘Aloha’ (love) that is being passed on from the practitioner to the recipient.

If you’ve ever experienced more than one Lomi Lomi massage, you may have noticed that they are never exactly the same. This is because the Lomi Lomi practitioner is taught to ‘read the body’ and ‘listen’ to what it needs, as opposed to just performing a ‘routine’.

In fact, one of our Lomi Lomi teachers in Hawaii sums this up well by saying that as the Lomi Lomi practitioner, you are the ‘dancer’ and the body of the recipient is the ‘choreographer’.

I really like this analogy as it keeps you in the mindset/spirit of working ‘with’ your clients as opposed to working ‘on’ them.

Afterall, as massage therapy practitioners we are really ‘faciliators of healing’ and not actually ‘doing’ the healing itself.

Anyway, I really hope you enjoy this new Lomi Lomi massage demo. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have or make comments below.

Mahalo and enjoy the rest of your day!

Aloha Friends!

Just a reminder that our very first course for 2008 is our Hawaiian Lomi Lomi Foundation Course.

If you have not yet trained in this beautiful hawaiian bodywork or even experienced a lomi lomi treatment for yourself, you are really missing out on something special.

Hawaiian Lomi Lomi (at least the style we teach) has been described as a massage that contains all massage styles within it, performed in one beautiful never-ending ‘flow’.

It is this flow that gently, yet steadily encourages the lomi lomi recipient to truly ‘let go’ and deeply relax…and relaxation afterall is the primary goal of all massage.

Why is relaxation so important? Well, where there is relaxation, there is no tension and the Hawaiians believe that all illness stems from a state of tension on one level or another.

Hawaiian Lomi Lomi like the waves of the ocean washes away this tension, layer by layer, breath by breath. Although there is the common perception that lomi lomi is just a soft, gentle massage, in truth it can be as strong and deep as it can be soothing and gentle. It is truly a style of massage that is for every body!

For the practitioner too, Hawaiian Lomi Lomi is healing to give and does not require physical strength, nor pressure on the hands and fingers. All movements stem from the core of the body and every movement serves only to strengthen and empower the practitioner’s body, mind and spirit.

Before practicing Hot Stone Massage and Spa Body Treatments, Tania and myself had built up a large clientele and all we offered was Lomi Lomi.

There was no need for any other massage modality and our clients didn’t want anything else. That in itself should give you some insight into how truly amazing (and how popular) Hawaiian Lomi Lomi is.

In fact, at one point in our careers, Tania and I walked into a NSW Tafe with the intention of learning about Swedish massage. The Tafe recognized our prior learning and experience, gave us a short video to watch, explaining the Swedish massage techniques and we then jumped straight into a practical test.

About an hour later we walked out with Certificates in Swedish Massage…with Distinctions!

All we did to achieve this was apply the Swedish techniques with the ‘flow’ and ‘connection’ of the and the teacher (Head of Massage) was really impressed!

Tania later was invited back to the TAFE to run a 6 week introductory workshop in Lomi Lomi, which was very successful and several of those students have since gone to complete further training with us.

If you too would like to learn a truly amazing, powerful, inspiring form of massage that your clients will totally love, we would love to have you join us on our intensive Lomi Lomi Foundation Course here in the Gold Coast Hinterland.

Here are the details of our first course for 2008:

P.S - In case you haven’t watched it already, here’s a short video presentation that gives you an insight into our Lomi Lomi courses and what our graduate’s are saying…

P.P.S - Here’s another photo of little Jaden Kalani. He’s doing beautifully, putting on weight everyday and is just so peaceful. Our hearts are so full right now. You’ll get to meet him and have a cuddle (or two or three) on the courses!

Happy New Year!

Well, here we are in 2008.

Happy New Year Everybody or as they say in Hawaii, Hau Ole Makahiki Hau!

This is set to be a big year for us with our first baby set to arrive later this month, or early next. The actual due date is the 6th February but both Tania and myself feel that he/she will arrive earlier than that.

Tania is doing just great by the way and has had very much a ‘dream pregnancy’. Her energy is high and she’s feeling relaxed and looking forward to having the baby here at home.

Here’s a photo I just took of her. 8 months pregnant and just glowing!

Tania -

As you can imagine, we are both sooo excited about meeting our special new addition soon and we are looking forward to the adventures that lay ahead for the 3 of us or should I say 4 of us - our kitty cat TomTom is the head of the house (or at least he likes to think so).

For those of you who haven’t met TomTom, he’s a 12 year old cat that we rescued from an animal shelter here on the Gold Coast, after his previous owner could no longer care for him. He’s a beautiful boy and likes to hang out with everyone on the courses.

Our Kitty
Meet ‘TomTom’ - (He was named ‘Thomas’ by his previous owner and my last name is ‘Thomas’ so we just put them together to make ‘TomTom’)

Anyway, another thing that we are really excited about is our recent decision to continue teaching throughout 2008!

As most of you would already know we had initially decided to take a break from running courses this year so that we could focus just on being parents. I even closed off our website and discontinued our newsletter.

However, throughout 2007 we were encouraged by many course participants to keep on teaching, and that the beautiful environment that we all create here on the courses would be wonderful for the baby.

In truth, the baby has already been enjoying the courses (in Mum’s tum) and has enjoyed many of your warm, massaging hands. It’s so wonderful to see how unborn babies (and babies in general) respond to loving massage.

Anyway, after giving it some careful thought and taking into consideration both the advice and the encouragement we have received from all you beautiful people throughout the year, we have ‘reconsidered’ our initial decision and will continue to run courses throughout 2008.

We know this will be good news for many of you who weren’t able to get onto of our 2007 courses, due to the fact that they booked out so quickly. Yay!

Yay!

However that being said, our course calendar will be much ‘lighter’ than usual this year so that we have plenty of time to focus solely on the baby, in addition to running courses.

Maintaining a healthy ‘balance’ in our lives is going to be a focal point for us in 2008.

Those of you who know us personally know how hard we tend to work behind the scenes here at Touch Of Aloha. So creating more ‘balance’ between work, play and of course being ‘”Mum” and “Dad” (the most important jobs of all) will certainly be a blessing for us this year!

Anyway, even though we’ll be running fewer courses, there is still plenty of opportunity to participate in the course(s) of your choice or all of them in fact
…provided you put your name down nice and early!

Also, you may have noticed that we have completely updated our website and given it a new ‘look and feel’ and a more ‘user-friendly’ structure.

You’ll easily be able to find all the information you need about all of our upcoming Lomi Lomi, Hot Stone Massage and Spa Body Treatments courses both on the site and also in our updated course information pack. You can check it out at:

http://www.TouchOfAloha.org

Anyway, Tania and I would both like to wish you all a very happy, healthy and prosperous 2008 and we look forward to working with you and supporting you throughout what promises to be a wonderful New Year!
